A Jefferson City woman was killed Friday in a motorcycle crash in St. Charles County.
The Missouri Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred at 12:15 p.m. on eastbound Missouri 94, east of Montelle Road.
Nancy Hoerschgen, 62, went off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail.
The patrol report shows she wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Friday was the first day some Missourians were able to ride their motorcycles without a helmet. In July, Gov. Mike Parson signed legislation allowing motorcyclists the option of riding without a helmet.
Under the new law, qualified operators 26 or older can operate a motorcycle or motortricycle without a helmet if they're covered by a health insurance policy or other form of insurance that would provide them with medical benefits for injuries as a result of an accident.
