WAITE PARK —  A St. Joseph man is in critical condition after a motorcycle crash Monday night, according to a Waite Park Police Department release. 

Justin Fischer, 31, was transported to St. Cloud Hospital and is in critical condition as of Tuesday morning.

According to the release, a Stearns County deputy attempted to stop a motorcyclist who made an unsafe lane change around 9:20 p.m Monday in the 1400 block of Division Street. 

The motorcyclist pulled into a parking lot at after the deputy activated their lights. The motorcyclist then fled at a high rate of speed and was traveling the wrong way on Stearns County Road 75.

The deputy did not pursue the motorcycle.

Later, officers received reports of a motorcycle crash on Division Street near Crossroads Center, according to the release, and the motorcycle was determined to be the same one the deputy tried to stop earlier. 

According the release, the motorcyclist lost control trying to cross the median to get into the eastbound lane and struck a street sign. 

No other vehicles or people were involved in the crash. 

Alcohol may have been a factor, according to the release, and the investigation remains under investigation. 

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and Waite Park Police Department all assisted in the crash.
