A 23-year-old motorcyclist from Nuevo died Thursday, Feb. 25, when he crashed on Ortega Highway, authorities said.
Ahkin Inniss died shortly after the 5:04 p.m. crash 2 miles west of Lake Elsinore, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office said.
Inniss was riding his 2008 Yamaha “at a speed greater than 50 mph” when he failed to make a left-hand curve, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release. He tried to brake on the dirt shoulder but struck a wood-and-metal guardrail and was thrown from the motorcycle.
Other motorists stopped and performed CPR before paramedics pronounced Inniss dead. He was wearing a helmet, the CHP said.
The two-lane road between Riverside and Orange counties also known as Highway 74 has been perilous for motorcycle riders, with at least 12 dying in crashes in the past three-and-a-half years, according to Southern California News Group reports.
The CHP asks anyone with information on Thursday’s crash to call 951-506-2000.
