VIROQUA, Wis. (WKBT) – Two people were injured Thursday, June 25, in a single motorcycle crash on Highway 33 and County Road V in Vernon County.
Vernon County Dispatch received a 911 call at 5:30 p.m. yesterday reporting the crash.
According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, a motorcycle driven by James E. Powell, 47, of Whitehall, was traveling on Highway 33 near County Road V when a transit van, stopped at that intersection, pulled out in front of the motorcycle. The driver of the van, Keith W. Lacey, 60, told officers he was waiting for a motorcycle to pass and then pulled out, not seeing the motorcycle driven by Powell.
Powell swerved to avoid colliding with the van, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle flipped over, ejecting Powell and his passenger, Angela A. Powell, 44. Both were taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Lacey’s van was not damaged and he did not report any injuries.
Assisting the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Hillsboro Ambulance Service and Hillsboro Fire Department.
The incident remains under investigation.
