Tyrone Borough Police were dispatched to 585 Washington Ave., Tyrone, at 9:22 p.m. on Oct. 21, after receiving reports of a physical domestic.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers interviewed the victim and learned that the male suspect in question was Byron Dwight Sullins, 31, of Altoona, and that he had fled on a blue Triumph motorcycle. The victim reported that Sullins had hit her on the head with his motorcycle helmet, so hard that a piece of the helmet had broken off and then grabbed her wrist, causing red marks and scratches. The victim also showed officers her right leg, which was covered in more scratches and red marks that she had gotten from Sullins.

While officers were on-scene, Sullins called the victim several times in an attempt to learn whether or not she had contacted the police. He refused to tell her his location and would only say that he had gotten gas, suggesting that he possibly intended to run if officers attempted to stop him on his motorcycle. The victim informed officers that, prior to leaving, Sullins had admitted to her that he had taken 15 Neurolin/Gabapentin, which he does not have a valid prescription for.

Officers later learned that Sullins no longer has insurance for his motorcycle and that his driver’s license expired in 2013. They were also informed that, according to his certified driving history, Sullins is DUI suspended and that he has four prior convictions. Sullins is facing charges of simple assault, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked and harassment. The charges will be filed with Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller.
