More than 50 people have donated $6,935 to help Adam Natividad, an employee at Smiling Dog Landscapes in Gold Canyon, and his wife, Karen, who were injured in a recent motorcycle accident.
Michelle Islas, office manager at Smiling Dog Landscapes, said she started a GoFundMe account with a goal of $10,000 and more is needed.
“We are so surprised and grateful by the generosity of everyone that has stepped up to help the family. Some residents of Gold Canyon have stopped by food, money and gift cards here at the office that we are able to hand directly over to the family. My biggest hope is that we can exceed the expectation,” she said.

“Each dollar is going to not only cover whatever medical bills it can, but also to support Adam and Karen’s five children that are all just praying for the best outcome possible. This includes rent, groceries, school costs if they come about, day-to-day bills and more,” Ms. Islas said.
Mr. and Mrs Natividad’s five children are being cared for by family, but their need is becoming greater by the minute, she said in the GoFundMe post.
“Adam and Karen do not have any medical insurance at all so each day the cost becomes more than this family can bear,” she wrote. “Adam’s co-worker Bill describes Adam as the man that would do everything in his power to take care of his family, his co-workers, his customers and if he felt anyone was in need, he was the first person to step in to take care of them no matter what.”
Injured Oct. 24 in Mesa
Mr. and Mrs. Natividad, who live in Mesa, were injured in a motorcycle accident at 1:40 a.m. Oct. 24 where Power Road joins U.S. Highway 60, Ms. Islas said.
“From what we understand, a truck cut in front of Adam causing Adam to essentially T-bone the second vehicle and lay the bike down. Adam’s wife, Karen, was thrown from the back of the bike; Adam hit the ground and skid. Adam was not wearing a helmet. I do not know if Karen was. We have made a request for the accident report, but have been unable to obtain it to date,” she said.
“The extent of their injuries is nothing short of devastating and changing daily,” Ms. Islas said.
Ms. Islas said her last day as office manager at the Gold Canyon business is coming up, so she decided to state Bill Roe of Smiling Dog Landscapes was the author of the GoFundMe account.
“I was the one that actually wrote and put the GoFundMe together; however, my last day with Smiling Dog Landscapes will be Oct. 30, so I wanted to be sure that Bill could carry on with all the necessary updates so I shamelessly used his name, email and additional contact information,” she said.
“Bill is very familiar with his family as they have been co-workers for 10 years,” Ms. Islas said. “I’ve known Adam since July and he has been one of the kindest, most family-oriented, driven people you could ever cross paths with. He has been painting houses on the weekend trying to save money to buy his family a home. He has taken children into his house that weren’t his if their parents were struggling, he has adopted families for Christmas, volunteered for community projects and always had a smile on his face.”
