TENNERTON — One man passed away due to injuries suffered after being ejected from the motorcycle he was riding Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle wreck near the West Virginia State Police barracks.

Investigating officer Cpl. V.J. Pyles with the Buckhannon detachment of the WVSP declined to provide the name of the male Monday, saying he first wanted to speak with the family in person Wednesday, when he comes back on duty.

According to the WVSP press release, at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26, the fatal wreck occurred approximately .3 miles south of B-U Drive on Route 20 South when the driver of the motorcycle had been traveling south and lost control in a sharp right-hand turn.

The release says the motorcycle skidded 106 feet into the opposing lane of travel before striking a ditch on the left roadway edge.

“[The male driver] was fully ejected from the motorcycle,” Pyles wrote in the release, and he was soon found in a wooded area along the roadside. The man was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital and pronounced deceased at 2:26 p.m. at the hospital “after live-saving measures failed,” the trooper said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no other motorists suffered any injuries. The WVSP release states law enforcement believes speed was a factor in the crash.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
