A motorcycle driver was seriously injured after crashing Monday afternoon into a guardrail on I-78 in Warren County.

The person was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle at about 4:38 p.m., when the bike hit the metal guardrail on the left side of the highway at milepost 2.5 in Pohatcong Township, New Jersey State Police said.

The driver was ejected and sustained serious injuries, state police said. The highway was shut down and a medical helicopter used to transport the driver to an area hospital, according to emergency radio broadcasts.

I-78 was closed for about 3 hours as troopers investigated. The cause of the crash remained under investigation as of Tuesday afternoon, state police said.
